What can I do to improve Diversity & Inclusion in my organisation?

As we celebrate Pride, this month we have highlighting the need for more equal representation for the LGBTQ+ community.

Just to recap, we know where Pride Month originated in June 1969, when NYC police raided the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village. Due to the illegality against the same-sex relations within the LGBTQ+ community back then, police often penalised and shut any establishment seen to solicitate any associated behaviour.

However, this day it sparked a six-day long riot in the surrounding area, with protestors clashing with police and law enforcements in the surrounding neighbourhood as a means to stand against the prejudice against the LGBTQ+ community. It acted as a catalysed of significant change over the coming years, with various Human Rights Organisations over-turning law around the globe in a movement to equalise the rights and representation of our now LGBTQ+ community.

Every year, in June, across major cities around the world; ‘Pride’ marches are held to celebrate, raise awareness and continually change the Rights for those who are often discriminated or stereotyped against.

The last year has shown that there are still challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community when it comes to inclusion and having the right and equal representation not just in the workplace but in society too.

Often discussions about this are few in number and do not always reflect the heart of the matter which could be different for each person. Everyone deserves to feel safe to be whoever they want and be encouraged to show this.

Companies all face challenges in assimilating people from various backgrounds and gender identities to feel included in the overall company culture. Here’s some ideas we’ve found to help overcome those challenges:
