Talent Point of View: New Year, New Us.

New years are normally a time for change – but this year is a particularly big one for us. That’s because 2020 marks the launch of our new brand: bigger, bolder, and better than ever!

While our service offering is now well-established, we felt that the brand had lagged behind in many ways; stale and corporate, despite the fact that the team itself is so vibrant. So, to get to the heart of what we – as a company – have evolved into over the last five years, we partnered with Manifesto Studios, a branding and design agency, to breathe new life into the brand.

In this edition of Talent Point of View, we’re shining a light on the creation of the new brand and talking about briefly about our high-level plans for 2020.

Growable Event Review: Advanced TDD Workshop with Cazoo

We were incredibly excited to host our first workshop, an evening that offered a free hands-on deep dive into Test-Driven Development, run by Cazoo's awesome Technical Coaches Marco and Alessandro. The evening was an ideal event for people who wanted to expand their knowledge of advanced testing techniques, learning directly from the people who literally wrote the book on the subject (Agile Technical Practices Distilled - https://www.goodreads.com/book...).

After an in-depth presentation on the topics being covered, participants split up into pairs to get hands-on with some tricky testing conundrums, all based on real-world issues that teams like those working at Cazoo can face. Speaking of which, several of Cazoo's own Engineers managed to come down for the evening and lend a hand, answering questions and helping unblock people when necessary.

Over the course of a couple of hours, participants were shown elements of Outside-In Development, BDD, TDD, and Domain-Driven Design that can all work in combination to create tests which allow for both engineering and business needs. Understandably, the workshop was a sellout success and we hope to run it again in the future.

Xmas

A Merry Christmas & A Happy Year of Charity!

We went out dressed to the nines in December for our annual Christmas party. It was a great evening, with food, drinks, dodgems, and dancing – but the festivities didn't end there! Seasonal celebrations continued the next week with Secret Santa and a cheeky Christmas quiz, complete with some office hijinks. Someone's on the naughty list!

2019 was an amazing year for us and our charity champions! Between the Halloween Bake Sale and a whole month of Christmas activities – including a multi-week office Bake Off, Christmas jumper contest, and a whole day of fun holiday-themed games – we managed to raise over £900 in the final three months of the year! The full lot has been donated to support the incredible, life-saving work of Guy's & St. Thomas' Hospital (https://www.gsttcharity.org.uk/).

A big shout out and massive thanks to Elena and Flo for their hard work in organising the bake sale, and everyone who helped to bake and run the stall on the day! We'd also like to thank Derek (our Xmas jumper connoisseur and Bake Off champion!) for helping put together a fun itinerary of Christmas games and, of course, the amazing Vicky for all of her coordination efforts and support throughout everything. Go team!
